Public Realm Improvements
Streetscape Improvements
The FDBIA strives to ensure the Financial District’s public realm mirrors the high quality of privately-owned properties in the area. Each year, the FDBIA refreshes a number of streetscape projects in the Financial District, including banners, poster-resistant pole wraps, planters, and more.
Capital Cost-Share Projects
When capital improvements by a public agency, such as the City of Toronto, occur in the Financial District, the FDBIA reviews opportunities for other public realm improvements to occur concurrently. For example, when a watermain replacement was scheduled on Richmond Street, the FDBIA partnered with the City to upgrade sidewalks along Richmond between Bay and York, including new sidewalk portions, accent pavers, trees, and tree grates. Capital cost-share improvements like this allow for upgrades that enhance the public realm without requiring additional disruption to neighboring properties.
Issue Reporting
One of our top priorities is ensuring the Financial District remains well-maintained. Our streets are inspected weekly to report public realm maintenance issues, which are then submitted to the appropriate agency. This program also includes inspection of filming permits and coordination with the City’s Streets to Homes team for outreach to individuals in need.
If you would like to report an issue with public realm assets in the Financial District, such as poles or street furniture, report it directly to the City by calling 311 or email us at info@torontofinancialdistrict.com.
