In May 2013, a report with the goal of increasing access to privately-owned and publicly accessible open space in the City of Toronto was requested from the Planning and Growth Management Committee. It was requested that all privately-owned public spaces in Toronto be identified and ensuring these spaces are identified with visible signage that the spaces are open to the public.
The City Staff report can be viewed online and the Planning and Growth Management Committee has directed City Staff to provide further analysis in the second quarter of 2014.
OUR POSITION: Any signage for privately-owned/publicly accessible open space should be developed as part of an overall pedestrian wayfinding strategy for the Financial District and respect the design integrity of each individual property.
