Traffic Control Box Public Art
The design is inspired by Torontonians’ curious eye- playing with close cropping of international currency symbols. By revealing only segments of currency symbols – adjusting the scale of each unit when assembled together – it becomes an entirely new abstract composition. It reflects diversity in our city, while challenging the norms of social interaction. “What is this? I feel like I’ve seen this before…”. When the interaction between strangers happens in the busy Financial District, the nature of the design, which is to trigger a conversation in the community is experienced. The final outcome is both co-authored and co-owned.
